Your First Project
Projects are where the work lives in Kavanah. Every project opens in the same board, with its own tasks, discussions, files, team and access settings.
Create a project
- 1Open Projects from the sidebar. Your projects are listed down the left of the board.
- 2Click Create New Project (or Create first project in an empty workspace) and type a name. A name is all you need: press Enter or Create projectand you're done.
- 3Want more up front? Click Add details to choose a Project Type, link a Client, and set a Start Date and Deadline. Then optionally add workspace members, each on a team, and click Create Project, or Skip for now to create it without members.
Anatomy of a project
- Overview: description, client, goals, documents, the project charter and recent activity.
- Tasks: the work itself (see views below).
- Recurring: rules that create tasks on a schedule (every Monday, the 1st of each month, and so on).
- Discussions: threaded conversations attached to the project, separate from chat.
- Team Members: who works on the project, and which teams they belong to.
- Access: make a project private to its members, and set each member as Lead, Member or Viewer. Only admins and owners can change this.
- Notifications: your notification feed, with mark-all-read and clear-read actions.
- Files: upload files or attach links.
- Integrations: connected tools, plus CSV / JSON import and export.
Views of your tasks
The Tasks tab shows the same tasks seven ways: Board, List, Timeline, Calendar, Gallery, Map and Table. The board starts with Open, In Progress, In Review and Completed columns. With a single project selected, you can add a column from the end of the board and rename or delete one from its column menu.
Add your first task
Click the + at the top of any board column (or Add Task in List view). A New Task drawer opens where you set the name, assignees, due date, reminder, status, tag, description, KVN, checklist and notes. Click Create Taskto save it. A card shows the task's time estimate once it has one; click the Estimate chip on a card to have the AI estimate it (or re-estimate it) without opening the task.
- Bring existing work in: the project's Integrations tab has Import CSV (including Jira and Asana exports) and exports to Standard, Jira or Asana CSV, or Board JSON. Trello and Monday.com boards can be imported as new projects.
- Or just ask: open AI Agentin the sidebar and describe the work, e.g. “set up a project for the website relaunch with tasks for design, copy and QA”. The agent creates the project and tasks for you.
Project ids are numeric, but the API refers to a task's project by the string form, projectRef (e.g. "1"). When you call the API, always pass the string form.
